Video Assistant referee

Within the world of football and technology, there are different sections to talk about but one of the most current and the most fashionable in 2022 is the incorporation of VAR in football matches.

The VAR (Video Assistant Referee)  It is the system implemented to provide technical assistance to referees on the pitch, using images from television cameras. The VAR continues to evolve but today it has already changed and has had a huge impact on today's football. The VAR notoriously affects and improves refereeing decisions, which helps to have a fairer and less problematic football.

Today we are going to talk about the direct effect of the implementaron of VAR in football.

- Some advantages are:

No referee error: Goodbye to doubtful goals, as the whistlers will have fewer errors thanks to the support of technology.

No deception: Strikers often try to deceive the referee by diving into the box to get a penalty. The plays would be reviewed in detail.

Fewer red cards: Disagreements due to expulsions. Many times the players and the teams have to appeal the red cards, with the help of the VAR the doubt would be resolved at that very moment.

- Some disadvantages are:

Excitement in the game: The euphoria could be lost in the celebration if the referee asks to review the play for a doubtful goal.

Not everyone can request a review in the VAR: The only ones who can request that the play be reviewed are the referees, since neither the coaches nor the players can request the use of video arbitration.

The minutes in which the game is cut and the spectators are waiting for the definitions: Without knowing or being able to see what is happening. More than a few impatients start beginning to talk about the lack of productivity of this new system. It is not going to be that because of the flag of transparency, football becomes something boring for the spectator. Football can never take the client out of our focus when carrying out this type of project.

  1. In the case of the VAR it has become very controversial because it has a lot of haters. In my opinion I think it is also because it is a technology that is only used at the referee's discretion and many people don't like that.
